What are flint tip tanks?
They are fiberglass tanks that bolt onto the end of the wing and replace the factory tip. The overall span is increased by 36 inches which results in a better climb and above 10,000 feet, we usually get reports of an additional 3 or 4 kts in cruise speed. The tank has it’s own filler cap and quick drain valve.
Why do tip tanks increase gross weight?
The technical (engineering) reason for the gross weight increase is the reduction in “wing-root bending moment”. Since the increased weight is placed at the wingtip, the bending moment at the wing root (where the wing meets the fuselage) doesn’t feel the same effect.
What are tip tanks?
Tip tanks. Many aircraft designs feature fixed tip tanks mounted at the end of each wing. The weight of the tanks and fuel counteract wing bending loads during manoeuvres and reduce fatigue on the spar structure.
How do tip tanks increase useful load?
Tip tanks increase the useful load by 200 pounds. Since the tip tank hardware itself weighs about 24 pounds, the useful load will increase by 176 pounds with tip tank installation.
How much weight can a Cessna 206 carry?
With a useful load of 1,500 to 1,800 lbs. depending on the model, the aircraft competes with most other heavy singles and many light twins.

How much do D Shannon tip tanks cost?
The mod is approved for virtually all Barons and is priced at $29,900 for a pair, installed. For years D’Shannon has specialized in mods for Beech Bonanzas, notably tip tanks. It currently offers a 20-gallon tip tank—all usable—made of composite material.
Do wing tip fuel tanks reduce drag?
Winglets have become popular additions to high speed aircraft to increase fuel efficiency by reducing drag from wingtip vortices. Wing tip tanks can act as a winglet and distribute weight more evenly across the wing spar.
How much do Bonanza tip tanks cost?
It seemed like a win-win situation because many trips in the Bonanza were well beyond the nonstop range provided by the standard 74-gallon main fuel tanks. The tip-tank kit lists for $5,500 plus about $1,750 for installation.
