What should AFR be on E85?
How does it affect performance?
Gasoline AFR | E85 AFR | |
---|---|---|
Cruise | 14.7-15.5 | 9.8-10.3 |
Idle | 13.5-15.0 | 9.0-10.0 |
Stoich | 14.7 | 9.8 |
WOT | 11.5-13.3 | 7.7-8.8 |
What should my wideband read at idle?
This is because your wideband oxygen sensor is only designed to read the oxygen content of the exhaust gases and doesn’t care what fuel is being used. -At idle or a steady cruise, it is normal for your gauge to display an AFR value of 14.0:1-15.5:1 or 0.95-1.05 in lambda.
What is tuning with wideband?
In short, a wideband oxygen sensor will give you a measurement of your Air/Fuel Ratio from about 10:1 up to about 20:1 AFR allowing you to target exactly the AFR you’re after at all times. A narrowband can only tell you when it’s 14.7:1, and is therefore nearly useless for tuning.
Is it better to run lean or rich?
TLDR – running just a little lean could improve fuel economy and give extra power. However, run too lean and you risk engine failure because the engine runs too hot. Whereas running rich can waste fuel and increase pollution but will not damage the engine.
What is a good air fuel ratio at idle?
14.7:1
14.7:1 is perfect for idle and light throttle cruising conditions as it’s the most efficient mixture possible, meaning the best fuel economy and lowest emissions.
What should AFR be at WOT?
WIDE OPEN THROTTLE: 12.5 AFR We typcially like to run a richer AFR here to get the best performance. Best performance for most vehicles is in the 12.5 to 13 AFR range. Going too rich will have the opposite affect and decrease your performance.
How do you tell if a carburetor is rich or lean?
Q: How Do You Tell if a Carburetor Is Rich or Lean? A: One way to tell for sure is by “reading” the spark plugs. If the plug tip is white, the mixture is lean. If it’s brown or black, it’s rich.
Do I need a wideband for tuning?
If you plan to head to the rollers to get it setup, and want a more hands-off install, then no need for a wideband at all. The dyno operator will use their own wideband during mapping, will optimise the fuelling and ignition, and, everything being equal, it should never change once tuned.
What’s the best way to tune an E85 jet?
You can usually lean the idle mix screws down till you get this surge at 2200-2800 rpm & then richen it up to be safe. Summer Blend – The higher Ethanol content the larger the jet needed (E85). Typically on E85 1 jet size change, unlike gas, will make a difference in performance.
Can a gasoline carburetor be tuned to E85?
First of all, you must understand that your NOT tuning a GASOLINE Carburetor, E85 is a different fuel and must be tuned differently than Gasoline. I’m sure that Phil or someone could chime in with the particulars of E85 vs. Gasoline and the physical differences….
What kind of AFR does an E85 have?
E85 has a stoichiometric AFR of 9.8:1 vs 14.7:1 on petrol. The wideband unit natively measures in units of lambda and then converts the reading to AFR units based on the setting for stoichiometric AFR.
What should water temp be on E85 1 jet?
Typically on E85 1 jet size change, unlike gas, will make a difference in performance. again….if you do not have a wideband you can tune your jetting for a water temp change of 170* to 177-179* in a 1/4 mile pass. more than 9* rise and your lean on your main jetting. less than 7* rise and your rich on your jetting.
