Should your driver swing be the same as your iron swing?
The truth is, the best golf swing for drivers and irons is essentially the same. The difference is not in the swing itself, but in how you approach the swing. I’m going to share a few easy adjustments you can make between your driver shots and your iron shots.
Are irons or drivers easier to hit?
Driving irons are aimed at hitting long, low penetrating shots and are easier for some to hit accurate, straight shots than their drivers.
Can you use an iron instead of a driver?
Loft. The loft on the driving iron is usually a bit higher than the loft of a driver. The idea of hitting a driving iron is to replace your driver and get a long and piercing shot off the tee. If you struggle with hitting shots up in the air, the driving iron could end up being a difficult club for you to learn to use.
Should you swing harder with a driver?
In golf, you should swing as hard as you can without losing your balance and posture. The longer you can hit the ball off the tee, the easier scoring becomes as you’ll leave yourself less distance into the green.
Why is the driver so hard to hit?
The driver is the lowest lofted club in your bag and creates the most ball speed. That combination is why it is difficult for the average golfer to keep tee shots in the fairway. Shots hit with the driver, by nature, tend to stray off to a greater degree than shots hit with lower speeds with lofted irons.
How can I improve my iron swing?
Concentrate on these three keys as you work on your address position:
- Use plenty of knee flex to provide a solid base for your swing.
- Allow your arms to hang freely from your shoulders by tilting forward from your hips. Hit Down to Go Up.
- Swinging too hard.
- Ignoring the lie.
- Going too far back.
Is it hard to hit a driving iron?
The key thing about them is that they are easier to hit than standard long irons yet they go lower than fairway woods. If you play somewhere that is often windy, the driving iron will become a close friend you can rely on.
Do any pro golfers not use a driver?
Not at all. Plenty of people do this. If you want references, look at Tiger Woods, in almost every round, he tees off the first hole with an iron, or Henrik Stenson who uses his driver maybe once a round, favoring his 3 wood. The only club you “have to” use is your putter on the green.
Why is a 2 iron hard to hit?
For most golfing mortals, however, the 2-iron is a difficult club to employ. It’s also the least-lofted club other than the 1-iron, the putter and some drivers. That combination of length and loft makes the club difficult to hit.
Should I swing 100% golf?
A Smooth Swing with Each Club Nick Price, who has won two PGA Championships as well as the British Open, recommends in “Breaking 100, 90, 80” that golfers concentrate on making a fluid motion–and complete their backswing. They should avoid the tendency to quicken their swing with certain clubs, such as short irons.
