Is CSST bonding required?
CSST needs to be bonded. When CSST is installed without being properly bonded to current standards, there is an increased risk for damage to the material from a nearby lightning strike. When CSST is damaged, it can leak gas and cause an explosion and/or a fire.
Does arc resistant CSST need to be bonded?
Arc-resistant (black) CSST The multi-layer system is designed to conduct the arcing energy to ground preventing perforation of the tubing wall. Both arc-resistant jacket systems provide equal protection along the entire length of the piping system, and the extra bonding described in this CodeNotes is not required.

How safe is CSST?
CSST is safe. CSST must be installed by a qualified professional and in accordance with the manufacturer’s design and installation guide and local codes, using proper procedures to bond the piping directly to the electrical service.
Does gas piping need to be bonded?
Bonding is required to prevent a possible electric shock hazard for persons that may be in contact with the gas piping and other grounded metallic building components. A stock hazard can result if these systems are energized at different levels of electrical potential.
Does all gas pipe need to be bonded?
NECĀ® Section 250.104 (B) requires that any metal piping including gas piping that is likely to become energized be bonded to the grounding electrode system. The NECĀ® also states that bonding of metallic systems, as a general practice, will provide additional safety.
