Why did people lose jobs at ESPN?
ESPN announced Thursday that it is laying off about 300 employees and cutting about 500 jobs from its global workforce. The cuts amount to about 10% of the employees at the sports network and are due largely to the impact of the pandemic on its business and the “tremendous disruption in how fans consume sports.”
Did ESPN cut staff?
The cuts will affect most divisions across the company, but are especially concentrated in broadcast production. ESPN will lay off 300 employees, about 6 percent of its worldwide staff, and let 200 open positions go unfilled, Jimmy Pitaro, the network’s chairman, told employees in a memo on Thursday.
