What are the tabs for on brake pads?
Worn brakes will usually emit warning sounds. A metal tab fastened to the pad assembly indicates when pads have thinned.
Does it matter where the wear indicator go on brake pads?
The pad with the wear indicator always goes on the pad that is in contact with the piston (inner pad), because that pad always receives pressure from the piston. . If for some reason the caliper was not sliding properly, the outer pad would see very little wear.
Can you put brakes on backwards?

Where do brake clips go?
The clips fit between the pads and rotor and push the pads away from the rotor. At the back of the caliper, you’ll find two complex-shaped little twisty spring clips. These springs hold the retaining pins in, which in turn hold the brake pads in.
Do all brakes have wear indicators?
The most obvious indicator that your vehicle’s brakes need attention is an incredibly high pitched squeal when you come to a stop. Brake pad manufacturers include a little piece of metal called an indicator on the pad itself. Additionally, many aftermarket and low-cost pads don’t come with a wear indicator at all.
Why are my brakes wearing unevenly?
In some cases, brake rotors can wear unevenly, causing what’s known as Disc Thickness Variation (DTV). DTV can be caused by different factors, such as sticking calipers, rust, slamming on the brakes frequently, or dirt and debris getting stuck between the pad and the rotor.
Does the brake pad with the tab go on the inside or outside?
The warning tab is supposed to touch the rotor only when you’re braking. I always put them on the inside against the piston. If the caliper gets sticky the inner pad will wear faster, and usually always does (slightly) anyhow.
