Does Ting use SIM cards?

Does my phone need to be unlocked to use Ting?
Keep in mind that your phone must be unlocked in order to activate on Ting. If a phone has been purchased as part of a contract or plan, the carrier won’t unlock the phone until the balanced owed to the carrier has been paid off.

Prior to the rate model, customers built their own phone plans and effectively got a refund at the end of the month for any unused talk, text or data that they had in their account.
What happens when you run out of data on Ting mobile?
Check your current phone or grab a new one from the Shop. Insert your Ting Mobile SIM into your phone and you’re off! After monthly data allotment is exceeded, you will be reduced to 2G speeds for the remainder of the month. If you run out of fast data, you can top-up your plan for $5/GB. Any unused top-up carries over to the next month.
