Is the nun story based on a true story?
Though the film is not based on a “true story”, like the other Conjuring films, it is a kind of origin story for the demonic presence that haunted Lorraine, played by Vera Farmiga, in Conjuring 2. The nun was apparently haunted by a demonic entity named Valak, who we saw in Conjuring 2.
What happens at the end of the nuns story?
The film concludes with Valak secretly gaining possession of Frenchie (note the upside down cross mark on the back of his neck) and the bombshell that Valak is using him as his conduit into the real world! But wait, there’s more! The Nun then jumps 20 years in the future to the 1970s and features a very familiar scene.
