What are CH studs?
Steeler Shaftwall Studs (also known as C-H Studs) can be easily combined with J Track to craft economical yet tough shaftwall systems. With a fire rating of up to 2 hours, Steeler C-H Studs are UL certified for Fire Resistance Rating, meaning peace-of-mind for designers and elevated safety for occupants.
What is Shaftboard?
GlasRoc® Shaftliner is a specially formulated product for applications where enhanced moisture and mold resistance is preferred. It can be used for firewalls in standard multi-family residential applications.
How thick is Shaftwall?
Shaftwall is available in 18 and 33 mil thicknesses (25-20ga.).
Can a shaft wall be load bearing?
USG Shaft Wall Systems are non-load bearing gypsum wall partition assemblies constructed from outside the shaft at each floor.
How do you fire a wall rate?
Double the number of Type X sheets on the wall for a simple system installed over fire-resistant fiberglass insulation; each sheet of 5/8-inch Type X drywall is rated to resist fire for one hour, so two layers will produce a two-hour firewall. Put two sheets together on one side or use one sheet on each side of a wall.
Can shaft wall be used horizontally?
Horizontal Shaft Wall is constructed in a similar way to a standard Shaft Wall and uses the same components. It is constructed using steel CH-studs as the ceiling joists. Horizontal Shaft Wall systems are ideal for constructing a ceiling when access is only possible from below and a fire rating is required from above.
Can you stack shaft walls?
Is it permitted to stack 1” shaftliner panels in a cavity shaft system? Yes, when the height of the assembly exceeds the length of a liner panel, then one liner panel is stacked on top of the other. No joint treatment or blocking is required at the horizontal panel butt joint.

How big is a USG ch shaftwall stud?
“CH” studs are fabricated in web depths of 2-1/2″, 4″, and 6″ each with a short-flange width of 1-3/8″ and long-flange width of 1-1/2″. All C-H studs manufactured by CEMCO are produced from hot-dipped galvanized steel in standard G40 coating.
