Do you have to pay to get into Silent Valley?
Silent Valley, owned by NI Water, is a large impounding reservoir which feeds the water supply the whole way up co. Down to east Belfast. The entrance fee is a very reasonable £4.50 for a car. Close to the car park is a duck pond and children’s play area, with picnic tables.

Olavakkode Railway Station in Palakkad is the adjoining railway station to reach Silent Valley National Park by train. Distanced by around 75km, visitors can easily avail state-run or private buses, cabs and local taxis to reach Silent Valley National Park by road from the railways station.

Walks nearby – for a range of abilities To explore Spelga Dam on foot, park at Deer Mountain car park at the southern end of the reservoir. Head north and follow the lakeshore for fantastic views over the reservoir towards the surrounding mountains. For a more strenuous hike, try out the Spelga Dam loop.
