What is completion port thread?

Posted on 2020-06-26 by Dominique Stacey

What is completion port thread?

A completion port thread will only be used briefly to mark the corresponding task in . NET as completed. If you start several FileStream instances in a loop, then the thread pool will create more IOCP threads to handle all the completing I/O request packets.

What is windows IOCP?

Input/output completion port (IOCP) is an API for performing multiple simultaneous asynchronous input/output operations in Windows NT versions 3.5 and later, AIX and on Solaris 10 and later. An input/output completion port object is created and associated with a number of sockets or file handles.

What does IOCP do?

IOCP builds a configuration definition from IODF information and stores the definition in an IOCDS so it is available when a POR is required. Processors can have multiple I/O configuration data sets. On an HCD panel, you can specify the one that you want to update.

What is IOCP thread?

The CLR ThreadPool has two types of threads – “Worker” and “I/O Completion Port” (aka IOCP) threads. These threads are also used by various components in the CLR when work needs to happen on a background thread. IOCP threads are used when asynchronous IO happens (e.g. reading from the network).

How do I fix Error 997 overlapped IO operation is in progress?

Solution #3 – Remove the updates triggering the errors

  1. Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program (or Programs and Features).
  2. In the left menu, click View installed updates.
  3. In the search box at the top-right, search for KB2918614.
  4. Do another search for KB3072630, KB3000988, and KB3008627.
  5. Restart your computer.

How does createiocompletionport create an I / O completion port?

The CreateIoCompletionPort function creates an I/O completion port and associates one or more file handles with that port. When an asynchronous I/O operation on one of these file handles completes, an I/O completion packet is queued in first-in-first-out (FIFO) order to the associated I/O completion port.

When to close the I / O completion port handle?

The I/O completion port is released when there are no more references to it. Therefore, all of these handles must be properly closed to release the I/O completion port and its associated system resources. After these conditions are satisfied, an application should close the I/O completion port handle by calling the CloseHandle function.

How does the completion port work in Windows 10?

You can create some number of threads (does not really matter how many) and make them all block on one completion port until an event (either one you post manually, or an event from a timer or asynchronous I/O, or whatever) arrives. Then the completion port will wake one thread to handle the event, up to the limit that you specified.

How does the Winsock completion port model work?

Essentially, the completion port model requires you to create a Windows completion port object that will manage overlapped I/O requests using a specified number of threads to service the completed overlapped I/O requests. Note that a completion port is actually a Windows I/O construct that is capable of accepting more than just socket handles.
